Pingbo Tang, Associate Professor, Carnegie Mellon University
Pingbo Tang is an Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. His research advances resilient civil infrastructure and production systems by developing human–AI collaborative methods that keep critical environments—such as modular factories, water utilities, airports, and energy systems—operational under uncertainty. He has led federally and industry funded projects on topics ranging from near-miss detection in heavy-duty vehicles and safety-critical decision support in nuclear microreactors, to digital twin–based diagnostics for water systems and manufacturing waste reduction. His work integrates human insight with AI analytics to reduce accidents, downtime, and resource waste, offering practical frameworks for safety, sustainability, and system reliability in the era of large-scale computing demands.
