Speakers

Jim is an independent consultant with a focus on the integration of renewable energy into the power delivery system. He's worked extensively on microgrid and resiliency programs for multiple clients in the US, Europe and Japan, with special support for the US DOE Office of Electricity's program goals over the past 12 years. He is a co-author of the Advanced Microgrid Report which set the path forward for grid interaction of microgrids, initiator of the Net-zero Carbon Microgrid Project ,and multiple scoping studies for SMR deployment – with special attention to the rapidly increasing power resource requirements related to AI/Data center development. He is a lifelong member of the IEEE Power Engineering Society, and a member of the Transmission and Distribution Committee. He is an officer of many standards and guides published by the IEEE Standards Association, including one underway for virtual power plants that recognizes SMR in the generation mix. Jim is the recipient of the IEEE SA Emerging Technology Award for 2024.
