Power is like oxygen for data centers, and protection from grid outages and disruptions is essential to any successful data center operator. But severe weather events, cyber threats, and wildfires have become the new reality and stress the grid with longer term outages. The data center industry leads the way in clean energy for their operations, which is why they are now turning to microgrids to address long term outages when downtime just isn’t an option. Unlike the traditional diesel backup generators, microgrids support clean power initiatives by reducing emissions while increasing reliability.

Microgrids offer data center and colocation operators a resiliency solution that leverages their existing investments in backup power and supports increased penetration of renewable energy assets. Most importantly, microgrid systems can island for extended periods during disasters when the grid is down for days to weeks and fuel supply chains are disrupted.

In this session, our industry panel will discuss vulnerability of the grid and the associated risks, key considerations for developing a power resiliency strategy, and top benefits a microgrid provides to data center operators.
