The UN has identified the internet as a basic human right. This position is amplified as a result of our continued evolution to a knowledge based economy. This is a significant issue in the United States as an estimated 162 million citizens lack access to broadband internet. In this presentation, Digital Sociologist Dr. Julie Albright, author of the book Left to Their Own Devices and Nancy Novak, Compass Datacenters CIO, explain how digital inclusion is comprised of multiple elements including broadband access, digital literacy and the applications within a broad spectrum of the country. Building upon this foundation, the presentation will focus the economic and societal implications of the current state of inclusion in the country and examine the alternative strategies that may be implemented to enable all Americans to participate and succeed in our economic future.
Attendees will learn:
1) What inclusion means in a digital context
2) The current state of digital inclusion
3) The potential economic impact of improving digital inclusion
4) Why inclusion is an imperative for the future
