In this session, participants will learn the latest developments in the field of energy consumption as it relates to data center design and operation. A review of the energy consumption of IT equipment will be covered, including the latest developments from the Department of Energy on recommendations for reduction of energy at the server level. Energy efficiency of the data center environment will also be discussed including a review of recent work done at the ASHRAE TC 9.9 Committee as well as a review of the ASHRAE TC 90.4 Energy Standard for Data Centers specification and how it relates to PUE and related efficiency metrics. The presentation will conclude with recent advances in energy modeling techniques and how they can be harnessed to guide effective decision making processes in data center operation.
