Living with the Edge: Optimizing Data Center Performance and Reliability Through Edge Computing

Tim Kittila (Director - Data Center Operations, Parallel Technologies)

Location: 205

Date: Monday, March 16

Time: 8:00am - 10:30am

Pass Type : All Access

Session Type: Workshop

Vault Recording: TBD

This workshop focuses on the following topics surrounding the edge and our changing world in edge deployments. Based upon our demands for reduced latency, increased storage, and data demands, edge has been and will be a part of our hybrid data center strategy. Obviously the consideration of getting data to and from various cloud and/or major hyperscale colo players will require an edge deployment to make this possible. While the goal many years back was to reduce the number of data centers, the number of micro deployments will only increase in order to meet our current demands. We will break this workshop into three sections:

  • Defining edge and describing various edge types, limitations of hyperscale data centers/cloud, and why edge is important and plays a role
  • Current edge deployment examples and the why, what, and how of planning for edge, security of edge, and operating of edge
  • The future edge roadmap, growth and impact of 5G, disruptors of edge, and being ready for edge 2.0.

In this workshop, our experts will discuss how you can make sense of it all and assure your colleagues not only that an edge strategy is right for your company, but that you’ve got the right design to support this evolving landscape. We’ll tackle resource issues, proper provisioning, workload management, networking limitations, and security protocols.
