This session will present a novel approach to cool AI and other super high-density data center applications. Hybrid Dry Adiabatic Cooling (HDAC) uses products currently on the market in a new way to provide two chilled water temperatures from a single closed loop. Discussion will cover the challenges and limitations of current air cooling, and how to integrate direct liquid cooling (DLC) and conventional air cooling into the same white space. The lecture will compare an air-cooled chiller (ACC) system and HDAC, including construction costs, operating costs, and maintenance costs for the lifecycle of these systems. As well, "institutional inertia" will be reviewed, to cover why ACC cooling systems are still widely used despite relatively high first cost and operating cost.
